Paul Tasong Appointed CEMAC Commissioner

Cameroonian Economist, Paul Tasong, has been appointed the Economic Commissioner for the Central African Economic and Monetary Commission, CEMAC.

Tasong’s appointment, which included that of three other Cameroonians into other Commissions in the CEMAC, was made public, Friday, November 7.

The communiqué indicated that Tasong and the three other Cameroonians were proposed by President Paul Biya to the current CEMAC President, Ali Ben Mbongo, who is also President of Gabon.

The Economic Commissioner of CEMAC is an international assignment with headquarter in Bangui, Central African Republic.

Before his newfound job at CEMAC, Tasong was recently dropped as the Secretary General in the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development.

In his administrative career with the government of Cameroon, Tasong has served as Director of Public Investments in the then Ministry of Finance and the Economy, and one time Delegate of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Southwest Region.

Before he moved on as a Regional Delegate, Tasong had served as Assistant Legal Research Officer in the Department of Taxes, Yaoundé, Value-Added Tax Auditor in the Centre Provincial Tax Centre, Yaounde, and Chief of Centre for Taxes, Tiko, Fako Division, Southwest Region.

After graduating from the then University of Yaounde  with a Degree in Public Law and Political Science, he will gain admission into the National School for Administration and Magistracy,  ENAM, Yaounde and subsequently graduate with a Diploma in Taxation. In quest of the Golden Fleece, Tasong had the opportunity to do a Masters Degree in Public Administration & Management in the Belgian University of Antwerp RUCA. From Belgium, he moved to the US, where he read Executive Education and Public Financial Management at the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government.

Tasong is credited for being the brain behind the Growth & Employment Strategic Paper, GESP, which carries the Vision 2035.  He has also been given a tick for his management (planning, monitoring and control) of the CAPEX component of the state budget and the institutionalisation of a participatory monitoring mechanism of State capital expenses.

Married with children, Tasong hails from Lebialem Division, Southwest Region. He is an ex-student of Sacred Heart College, Mankon, Bamenda, where he had his Ordinary Level Certificate and CCAST Bambili, where he obtained the Advanced Level Certificate.
