The owner of the workshop, Nkemlebe Agnes recounts that she was in her shop with some customers who had come to collect their Women’s Day outfits, when they heard a loud noise outside.

“I thought it was a vehicle that fell somewhere, but I never imagined it was coming towards me. Suddenly, I saw the iron door give way, the pillars conked out, and blocks shattered. It was a big shock to me, and I immediately burst into tears, thanking God for our lives. Five of us were inside; four adults and a five month old baby. No one was hurt.” The victim narrated.

Inquiring about the cause of the accident, Nkemlebe said ‘I don’t know. I heard people asking him and he said it was brakes failure.”

At press time, the smashed taxi had been evacuated from the site, while repair works were in progress on the damaged wall. Meanwhile, Nkemlebe Agnes has temporarily relocated to another room next door, thanks to good willed neighbors.

Sandpit is one of the neighborhoods with a tarred street in Buea. Despite the narrow road, drivers have been noted for speeding, parking wrongly, or overtaking roughly especially at sharp bends.
