Indomitable Lions: Finke Maintained, Eto’o Axed

Friday August 22 2014, German born coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, Volker Finke, was reappointed to his position, while he still has a year to go in his May 2013 – May 2015 contract with the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT and the government of Cameroon. This was the kernel of a communiqué signed by the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Adoum Garoua.

According to the communiqué, Finke’s first assistant, Ghanaian trainer, Ibrahim Tanko is maintained. The second and third assistants are new comers and Cameroonians. They include; Alexandre Belinga and Bonaventure Djonkep respectively. The aforementioned replaced Ndtoungou Mpile. The erstwhile trainer for keepers; Jacques Songo’o was also replaced with another former Indomitable Lions keeper, Alioum Boukar. The team manager, Rigobert Song Bahanack maintained his job.

The medical team of the Indomitable Lions did witness some changes too as Philemon Tamo is now in charge well as the team press officer, who is now Vincent De Paul Atangana of the CRTV Television Sports Desk. He takes over from another CRTV Radio journalist of FM 94 in Yaoundé, Raphael Nkoa. On an interim basis the new Administrative Director of Cameroon National Teams is Pierre Clavert Oyomo.

Immediately after the renewal of his contract, Volker Finke made public a list of 23 players to begin the qualifiers for AFCON 2015 due in the Kingdom of Morocco. The big absence in the Volker Finke new-look Indomitable Lions is Samuel Fils Eto’o, former skipper of the Lions. Eto’o and more than ten other players who had a disgraceful outing with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have been booted out of the squad. These include; Aurelien Chedjou, Jean II Makoun, Charles Itandje, Allan Nyom, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Dany Nounkeu, Achille Kwamou Webo, Henri Bedimo, Alex Song out for red card received during 2014 FIFA World Cup match against Croatia, Fabrice Olinga and Loic Feudjou.

The squad to begin working towards the Saturday, September 6 2014 match against the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC in Kinshasa include;
