Buea, Cameroon.

About a third of the Substantive Senators that President Paul Biya appointed on May 8 2013 are traditional rulers, with almost all of them being First Class Chiefs and CPDM militants. One of them is Paramount Chief of the Bafaws, Nfon Victor Essemosengo Mukete.

Nfon Mukete, an old name in Cameroonian politics from the days of Southern Cameroons with contemporaries like late Nerius N. Mbile, is still in the spotlight of Cameroonian politics of today. With the Senate now a reality in Cameroon, he emerged the eldest member of the house, 95, during the first statutory session.
