While expressing gratitude to the medical doctors in the Metro Chicago area who made the donations possible, especially to Dr. Luis Balanos of Chicago, who contributed fifty percent of the medicines and supplies, Makuna invited Cameroonians in the Diaspora to be part and parcel of the building and development of their mother land, Cameroon. Southwest Regional Delegate of Public Health, Dr. Victor Mbome Njie saluted the initiative from the management of Makuna International as he received the equipment, noting that it is a Christmas gift to his department.

He described some of the consumables as live-saving, which will help them meet the needs of some of the patients who will be unable to pay their bills, especially those in the Surgical Department.

According to Mbome Njie, gestures like that from Makuna International make the difference, adding that they are in the process of upgrading the Emergency Department of the Buea Regional Hospital. “A big thank you to all those who are behind this endeavour and I promised them that we are going to make good use of all what they have handed to us,” he noted.
Though the Southwest Regional Health boss gave a thump-up to the efforts the government of Cameroon is making towards greater standards for the Buea Regional Hospital, he prayed for more efforts to be made, from all quarters, saying there is always need at the Emergency Department of the hospital. “We change every day. So, we must be ready to always modify, we have to be efficient and be on the alert, especially with the evolving times. Our intention is to do better today than we did yesterday,” he mentioned.

The Alive Project of Makuna International has a long term mission of improving healthcare, education and bringing safe drinking water to communities across Cameroon. In recent years, the Alive Project has mobilised Cameroonians in the USA and they have successfully delivered 40,000 books to the University of Buea, donated computers and gave insights on how to start an IT Department.

The President of Makuna International has been a foremost leader in improving US – Cameroon business engagement.  The USA – Cameroon Trade Forums under the leadership of Makuna Tande have brought over 400 Cameroonian companies and government representatives to the USA and in the last five years, he has led three US business delegations to Cameroon.
