Two years into its existence, the University Institute of the Diocese of Buea, UIDB, has witnessed changes at its helm three times. After Rev.Fr George Jingwa Nkeze, Pioneer President, Hon. Peter Ayuk Arrey and Rev.Fr Joseph Bomnsa, here comes Rev.Fr Basil Sede, the fourth and newly appointed President of UIDB.
In a communiqué to all Christ’s lay faithful christened “Renewing The Mission and Identity of UIDB” dated Friday, September 28 2012 and signed Mgr. Immanuel Bushu, the latter wrote; “As UIDB moves into its critical stage – the junior year, there is need for a different kind of leadership that will further strengthen, redefine, renew the mission and identity of UIDB.” The Prelate added; “It is for this reason that I appoint Fr. Basil Sede as the new President and Rev.Fr Joseph Awoh as the new Provost and Director of the Catholic Studies Programme of UIDB.”

The Diocesan communiqué noted that the newly appointed officials take over their new responsibilities on Monday, October 1 2012. However, Fr. Nkeze that Mgr. Bushu had appointed as UIDB’s Pro-Chancellor and Delegate for Special Duties, Government and Foreign Missions, has been told to join the newly appointed and take UIDB to another level of growth. “Since Fr. Sede can only make it back home from Rome, Italy in January 2013, I am commissioning my Pro-Chancellor Fr. Nkeze to be interim President; October 1 2012 – February 2013, end of First Semester,” read the communiqué.
The Bishop of Buea appealed to all, in his communiqué, to see his proposals and measures as ways of making everybody proud of the Diocesan University, while expressing gratitude to the mentor university, University of Buea, UB, the students, faculty, staff, parents, friends, supporters and well-wishers of UIDB for their relentless support as they continue to look out for best means and practices to make UIDB a place for educational excellence and stability.
The September 28 2012 communiqué also mentioned some new creations in UIDB. These include; the Board of Trustees, Honorary Board Members, UIDB Parish and the opportunities for the training of UIDB personnel. Amongst the fourteen member Board of Trustees are; Chief Prof. Samson Negbo Abangma, Chief Justice Lucy Asuagbor, Roland Kwemain, Rosaline Menga, Gregory Alem and George Yenika. Included in the list of six Honorary Board Members are; Cameroon’s Ambassador to the USA, HE Joseph Bienvenu Charles Foe Atangana, Prof. Mike Naughton of the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota, USA and Dr. Mathias Fobi of the Tri-City Regional Medical Centre, California, USA.
Transfers & Appointments
In a separate decision signed September 28 2012 by Mgr. Bushu, the following Priests have been transferred and appointed in Buea Diocese. Fr. Joseph Awoh leaves the Catholic Education Secretariat for UIDB as Provost. Fr. Vincent Mesue from Tombel Parish moves over to Molyko, Buea as Parish Priest, St. Charles Lwanga Parish. From Ikassa, Fr. Bernard Asek goes to UIDB Campus Ministry. He will be joined by Fr. George Ngalame, cumulating with his function as Diocesan Financial Scribe. The University of Buea, UB Parish will be enriched with the coming of Fr. Lucas Ngwa from England. Fr. Raphael Kolle former Provost of UIDB goes on further studies to the Catholic University of Yaoundé. Fr. Joseph Bomnsa erstwhile President of UIDB leaves for Sabbatical. Pioneer Parish Priest of St. Charles Lwanga Parish, Molyko, Fr. Francis Ncham moves to Gardens, New Town Parish, Limbe as Parish Priest. From Kumba Town Parish, Fr. George Ngomba takes off to Tombel as Parish Priest. Fr. Wilson Ngema, Parish Priest of Bomaka, Buea takes another responsibility as the Director, Diocesan Radio. Formerly Principal of Regina Pacis College, REPACOL, Mutengene, Fr. Alexander Nougi Sob is now the Diocesan Catholic Education Secretary. Still in REPACOL, the Chaplain Fr. Armstrong Ndi takes over as the Principal while Fr. Cajetan Ejolle from Mamfe Diocese replaces Fr. Ndi as the Chaplain of REPACOL.
