The Head of State, His Excellency President Paul Biya will onFebruary 20th join the rest of the country in Buea, South West region capital to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the reunification of Cameroon. This pronouncement was made in a press briefing organized and chaired by Issa Tchiroma Bakari, Minister of Communication.

The government, according to the Minister, has spent over 35 billion CFA francs on projects in preparation for the 50th anniversary. He reported that contractors have completed their projects and Buea town is ready and fit to receive the President and his wife.

Some of these projects include renovation of the Mountain Hotel and the Parliamentarian Flat, building of a Presidential Tribune at the Bongo Square and the reparation and construction of 33 kilometers of urban road.  The Minister equally mentioned the improvement of pipe borne water from 5000 to 12000 cubic meters and the completion of the Reunification Monument near the Governor’s office.

The Mayor of Buea, Ekema Patrick, expresses gratitude to President Paul Biya for the development of his municipality. He admitted that the renovation of the dilapidated structures of the Mountain Hotel and the Parliamentarian Flat and the recently tarred roads have transformed the town into a modern city.

Mayor Ekema added that the developments that have taken place in Buea, especially the road infrastructure, in preparation for the 50th anniversary, would have taken the council more than 20 years to achieve. Today, anyone from Limbe can get to Buea through Wotutu-Bojongo-Sasse road without passing through Mutengene like it was in the past.  Tarring of the road from Malingo Junction to Buea frees Mile Seventeen from traffic congestion.

The Mayor of Tiko, Daniel Mukando, who was also available at the press conference, thanked the Cameroon government for the electrification of some streets in Tiko and the development of the Mpundu-Mondoni national road. Users of this road, according to the Mayor, will now take very short time to get to Kumba without passing through Tiko-Douala road.
