Mgr. Nkea Formally Takes Over Mamfe Diocese Feb. 22

Until January 25 2014, Mgr. Andrew Fuanya Nkea was the Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese of Mamfe with the right to succession. Saturday, January 25 2014, the Apostolic Nunciature in Yaounde, made public a press statement that carried the official resignation of Mgr. Francis Teke Lysinge according to the Code of Canon Law and the details of the Canon Law that gives Mgr. Nkea, hitherto Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese of Mamfe the right to now assume the function of a Bishop.

The Apostolic Nunciature in Cameroon communicated that; “On January 25 2014, the Holy Father Pope Francis accepted the resignation from the pastoral government of the Diocese of Mamfe, presented by His Excellency Bishop Francis Teke Lysinge, in accordance with Canon 401 paragraph 2 of the Code of Canon Law.”

The release will add; “Consequently, applying Canon 409 paragraph 1, His Excellency Bishop Andrew Fuanya Nkea, hitherto Coadjutor Bishop, is now the Diocesan Bishop of the Diocese of Mamfe.”

Expressing gratitude to God for the papal announcement and confirmation, Mgr. Nkea mentioned that his installation in the Cathedral of the Diocese of Mamfe has been slated for Saturday, February 22 2014 at 9:00 AM.

The journey of Mgr. Nkea’s episcopacy began on Wednesday, July 10 2013 at 11:05 AM when His Lordship, Immanuel Banlanjo Bushu, Bishop of Buea Diocese, at the Regina Pacis Cathedral in Small Soppo, Buea made public the formal announcement of Mgr. Nkea’s election as Coadjutor Bishop of Mamfe Diocese by Pope Francis. Then, Fr. Nkea was a Priest in the Diocese of Buea serving as Registrar of the Catholic University in Bamenda, the university managed by the Bishops of the Ecclesiastical Province of Bamenda. These include; the Dioceses of Buea, Bamenda, Kumbo and Mamfe.

Thereafter, a colour-packed, solemn and spiritually filled Episcopal Ordination as Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese of Mamfe took place on Friday, August 23 2013 in Mamfe. The ceremony was conducted by the Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, His Excellency Mgr. Piero Pioppo.
