Buea Hosts the 15th University Games In Cameroon

The University of Buea hosts the Cameroon University Games for the 3rd time and the event is launched this day by the Minister of higher education Jaque fame ndongo in the presence of other states officials like Prof Bruno Bekolo President of the National organizers of the University Games, Prof Jean Tabi Manga, Rector of the Yaounde II University, Prof Vincent Tanji, Vice Chancellor of the University of Buea, the host institution, among others.

A large crowd gathered at the administrative ground and received the minister of higher education-Prof Jaque Fame Ndongo who cut the ribbon tight to open up the ceremony of the launching of the 15th University Games. Eighteen universities and other higher institutions of learning are to take part in this year University Games. Both private and state owned institutions. Universities of Yaounde 1 and 2, Dchang, Douala, Maroua, Ngoundere, Bamenda, National Advanced school of Public works, National School of Post and Telecommunication, Institute de Siantu Superieur , Institute de Science et Haleutique — just to name a few.

Prof Vincent Titanji welcomed all to the university campus and urged the participants to prove their solidarity and citizenship in the course of the games. success. He urged them to showcase their utmost best. He called the event not just a sports event, but an event for feasting. Then Spoke the president of the national organizers for the University Games, Professor Bekolo, who stated that the aim of the University Games is not just to keep the higher institutions in physical fitness, but also as a means to consolidate national unity. He told the athletes that it was time they started looking forward to an international competition. Finally, the minister of higher education, Jaque Fame Ndongo, who called the event one for the celebration of talent and therefore a quest for excellence, declared the University Games for 2012 launched.

The Olympic candle was lit, the flags of the participating universities and higher institutions were hoisted and followed by a  match pass.

Who will champion the University Games this year?  Victory is yet to be determined. The games have just begun and will last for a week.
