Cameroonian Scholar Honoured With Achievement Award

Prof. Victor Wacham Mbarika, President of the ICT University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA, has been offered a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Cameroon Association of Engineers and Computer Scientists, CAECS.

The ceremony, dubbed “Scientific and Technological Forum of the Cameroonian Diaspora,” took place in Dortmund, Germany, recently. It brought together international guests, members of the CAECS resident in Germany, policy makers, individuals in technology, academia and other professionals.

In the heart of the event was the award for Prof. Mbarika, which read; “For outstanding contribution in computer science and telecommunication.”

The Dortmund gathering also provided a collegiate setting for presentations and discussions of national and international development issues of concern and best practice models.

In reaction to the honour bestowed on him, the ICT Consultant and founder of the International Centre for Information Technology and Development in the Southern University & the ICT University in Baton Rouge, USA, gave a talk on “Making ICTs A Reality For Africa’s Higher Education: Research, Training & Funding.”

Founded in 2000 in Frankfurt, Germany, the CAECS has come to make the increasing number of engineers and computer science students from Cameroon who live in Germany to establish an association and a link that help to improve their status in German universities. The CAECS also honours the best Cameroonian graduates and professionals in the industry or in the field of research.

As Prof, Mbarika settles down to savour his new award; he is remembered for The Houston Alumnae Endowed Professorship, which he received from the Southern University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA in 2011.
