Libyans Sent the Lions Home with Tails between their Legs: Libya 2, Cameroon 1

By Atanchomba

The Libyan football team crushed the Cameroon’s Lions by 2 goals to 1 in Sfax, Tunisia early today. The first goal came to play when the Libyans sneaked a direct kick into the Lions’ goal post at the 6th minute of the game. Not too long later, Choupo Moting responded with Cameroon’s lonely goal.

There Libyan team launched an attack, but the Cameroon mounted a defense and played Libya at the center of the field. As the game went on, Cameroon showed ferocity with many attempts to score, but the Libyan’s defense relentlessly stopped the Lions.

In about twenty minutes into the end of the game, the Lions continuous pressure in the Libyan camp showed gross weakness in their defense. The Libyans capitalized on Cameroon’s weak defense to score their winning goal with a corner kick.

Libyan’s winning goal came at about two minutes into the end of the game. The Lions’ last attempt to make a quick pass towards the Libyan goal post was met with the final whistle from the referee. Cameroon lost to Libya and walked out of the field with their tails between their legs.

Will the Lions roar back? This is left to be seen. However, this qualifying leg of the match with Libya showed Cameroon team’s disorganization. Cameroon players showed prowess in their attacks but lagged fluidity. There were incomplete passes and lack of cross over passes from the left and right into Libya’s goal post.

If the Lions are to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, they’ll have to find some cohesiveness among players, mount a continuous attack while patching up loop holes found in their defense. They’ve another chance to roar in their next match with Guinea-Bissau in Cameroon.

The Lions are now in the 3rd the place with 3 points while Libya takes the lead with 4 points in GROUP I.
