Despite ongoing efforts to keep the house clean, the Cameroonian police corps is still tainted with some vices. Martin Mbarga Nguele, the Delegate General of National
Security is worried that corrupt practices and indiscipline are still rampant within the corps.
At the graduation ceremony of some 577 Inspectors of Police that took place recently in the campus of the Police Training Centre, Mutengene, Mbarga Nguele enjoined the graduates to continue improving on the image of the Cameroonian Police
and respect hierarchy.
He told them to serve the public with abnegation and diligence while reassuring that his office and the government will give them all the possibilities to effectively do their work, especially in the efforts to modernise the Police Corps and fight against cyber and urban criminalities.
The Police boss noted that he has taken down the problems mentioned by the Commander of the Mutengene Police Training centre, saying the necessary solutions will be sought by the government.
Amongst the worries raised by Commissioner of Police, Monkouop Mouminou, Commander of the Mutengene Police Training Centre are; the refurbishing of the centre’s multimedia department, connection onto the internet and optical fibre networks, the rehabilitation of the electricity and water networks in the centre, updating the library to catch up with the changing times and the necessity to continue building the capacity of the centre’s staff thanks to a cooperation agreement with the French Cooperation Agency.
Mouminou said the Inspectors, who were already in the Police Corps received professional and military training with focus on Human Rights, Public Liberty and the new trends in the Police, which is that of going scientific and technical.
He mentioned that the 577 Inspectors of Police are set to control traffic, maintain peace & order, protect citizens and fight cyber and urban crimes.
Mouminou instructed the graduates to make good use of the knowledge acquired during their sojourn in the centre. The 577 Inspectors of Police are of the 2009, 2010 and 2011 batches.
According to Mouminou, from the beginning, they were 625 trainees who succeeded but 43 of them did not show up at the centre. Three abandoned in the course of the training, two were evacuated for health reasons while one died.
