Christ The King College Loses Principal

The Principal of Christ The King College, CKC, in Tiko, Fako Division, Southwest Region is no more. Rev. Sister Emmanuella Nkengasong Fomenky died January 19 2013 at the Mount Mary Health Centre in Buea after a brief illness.

According to medical sources at the aforementioned health centre, Sr. Emmanuella arrived from Mamfe, where they had a principals’ meeting and complained of fatigue. In the course of undergoing treatment, she passed away.

Emmanuella Nkengasong Fomenky was born April15 1971 to Chief Joseph Nkwetta Fomenky, deceased and Mrs Cecilia Tumi Fomenky.

From 1982 to 1985, she will do her primary education at St. Anthony of Padua primary school, Kumba Mbeng. Thereafter, she proceeded to Queen of the Rosary College, Okoyong, Mamfe, from 1982 to 1987, where she obtained the GCE Ordinary Level Certificate. 1987, she moved on to St. Augustine’s College, Nso for high school and will eventually, make a pass in the GCE Advanced Level Certificate Examination.

September 30, 1989, in response to the call to religious life, she joined the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Therese of the Child Jesus in Buea.  After novitiate training, she made her first profession on October 15 1992 and final profession on August 30 1999 in Kumba. From Kumba, she went to St Augustine College, Nso, Bui Division, Northwest Region as a probationary teacher.

In 1999 she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology from the University of Buea and continued teaching after her graduation in St Augustine College, Nso.

September 1999, she jetted off to Loreto House in Ireland, UK, where she was trained on how to prepare candidates for religious life. Done with the training at Loreto House, Sr. Emmanuella was appointed Mistress of Postulants and subsequently Mistress of novices, where she put in 7 years. After these services, she travelled to Hawkstone Hall, England for a renewal program in religious life. On her return, she was assigned to Christ the King College, Tiko as principal, a position she held until her death.

From the time of her first profession till her death, Sr. Emmanuella served the people of God in other areas of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Buea not mentioned above. These include; Bursar General of Sisters of St. Therese from 2008 until her death and Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship, Research and Innovation, CERI in the  University Institute of the Diocese of Buea, UIDB from 2011 till her death.

According to Sr. Mary Kombe, head of the Sisters of St. Therese of the child Jesus Congregation in Kumba, Diocese of Buea, “Sr. Emmanuella died in the service of God and her Church. We will live to remember her as we can all bear testimony to the numerous examples she showed us by her way of life, especially her tremendous and outstanding selfless love, generosity and joy-radiating nature. May her gentle soul rest in peace. Amen!”

The remains of Sr. Emmanuella will be taken out of the morgue of the Buea Regional Hospital on Thursday, February 14 2013, followed by a series of requiem masses in the St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Church, Molyko, Buea and in the campus of Christ The King College, CKC, Tiko. From Tiko, the corpse will be conveyed to Kumba, where another vigil masses have been programmed at the St. John Catholic Church, Kumba Town and the St. John College campus in Kumba.

Burial has been slated for Friday, February 15 2013 at the premises of the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Therese of the child Jesus in Krammar Avenue, Kumba at 11am.
