How far has the national professional football League gone with preparation for the 2013-2014 football season?

The preparation for the 2013-2014 football seasons is going on very well. As you must have heard on radio or television we have gone far more than preparation phase because the football season is starting next Saturday and on Sunday will follow the rest of the matches of the MTN ONE. Then, for the MTN elite TWO we will start a week later. For now everything is being done for a hitch free football season and we are at about now preparing to go to Douala this Friday where we will have a ceremony to officially open the 2013-2014 football season. For this ceremony, we have invited chiefs of all the football enterprises, partners and stakeholders in the football sector.

What delayed the league from starting this weekend?

Jules NYONGA, President of the competition commission at the national professional football league.

We pushed the official date for the resumption of the football season for a number of reasons. To begin with, we just signed the convention with our partner MTN today who is the main sponsor of the national professional football league. Without the signing of this contract it will practically be impossible for us to go ahead with the football season. Another reason for the late start of the season was a sort of disagreement between club presidents and the professional league whereby the clubs did not want to form a syndicate for a proper functioning, nevertheless the problem was solved. The clubs were given two more months by the president of the league to get ready for the next season.

Due to the delay a meeting held, what concretely were the resolutions?

For the resolutions, the clubs were asked to create a syndicate so as to ensure a proper functioning for the up coming football season. This in order to be in good terms with the professional when it comes to issue of finances, because when it will be time to give money to clubs for the season it will be better to give it to the person in charge of the syndicate rather than giving it to a particular individual.

How will the FCFA 654 million set as budget for the clubs be shared?

For this question, I don’t think I am better placed to answer questions concerning finances. My role at the professional football league is to take care of the competition, and see into its proper functioning. I think you should address your question to the right quarters or to the person in charge of finances at the professional football league.

What is the professional league proposing to do this year to ameliorate or bring in more sponsors for a better football season?

Apart from renewing our contract with our natural and main sponsor MTN, we have for this football season decided to bring in other sponsors like CAMRAIL, Set Telecom, FERCAM with whom we are on the verge of signing new contracts.
