Buea, Cameroon.
The mayor of Tiko sub division, Richard Tita Fombon has resigned as president of Tiko United aka “Samba Boys.”

Tita Fombon announced he and his entire executive were stepping down as management of the club during an extraordinary congress which held on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the Tiko Town Green Hall.

Buttressing his point in the presence of the new Divisional Officer, Che Patrick Ngwashi and a hand full of supporters who turned up for the congress, the mayor cited the lack of

collaboration and team spirit among executives, players, and supporters, the quest for position and personal interest on the part of some exco members, the dissemination of  wrong information intended to sabotage management, as well as inadequate funds due to delays in Fecafoot/MTN subventions, as major reasons for their resignation.

“I just gave the leadership of Tiko United to the population as they wanted. From the time we took over the team, I think we’ve done our best; we did what we could. Now there is a new executive, and we will continue to support them the best way we can,” Fombon said.

Commenting on the present state of the club rocked by financial constraints and occupying the last spot on the MTN Elite Two Championship, the mayor regretted, but said they only did what they had to do. “I cannot say I am satisfied because this is not where we expected the team to be.”

Speaking shortly after the resignation, one of the supporters, Fang Chu Beltus lamented that they (supporters) resolved to take over the management of Tiko United because the previous regime failed to live up to expectations. Chu went further to refute allegations that they were being manipulated by other unnamed individuals who were bent on flushing Fombon and co out on the basis of embezzlement of club funds and political reasons.

“Tiko United is not a political party, and is not bound to any particular nationality. When we went to his office, it was to offer advice on how to better run the team. We did not expect him to resign.”

Another supporter, Ndumbe Fidelis thanked the mayor for his contribution to the club so far, and pleaded that this is not time for accusation, finger-pointing. Football is not easy to run, and our mayor did not have enough time to manage the affairs of the club. If they have resigned, it has come from their hearts. “We cannot sit and watch our team descend from Elite One to Elite Two, and the ‘Devil League’ (Regional Championship) and it is time for

the town to take over the team.”

It is against this backdrop that under the supervision of the Divisional Officer, Che Patrick Ngwashi, a five-man interim bureau was set up on the spot to run the team, pending fresh elections.

After consultation, the following were co-opted:

President – Ngembus Burnley

Secretary – Njuakem Beltus

Treasurer – Mongomo

Publicity Secretary – Moses Anjah

Ndumbe Fidelis – Team Manager.

It was also agreed that a four-man audit committee be set up, whose report is expected in one week, after which all documents would be officially handed over to them.

Installing the new interim bureau, D.O Che Patrick saluted their courage, and urged them to be committed to the

course.

“It is not an easy task, but take your responsibilities. I will always be there for advice. I also call on the population to lend their total collaboration in ideas, contributions, and gate takings. It is our common wish that Tiko United gets back to Elite One.

To the new man in charge, they have engaged in an all-out rescue mission. “At this stage, it is like your house is on fire. The immediate plan is to bring back all those who have been out of the team, and together we are sure of success.

Really, things were not going right with the team because the executive in place at that time had little time for the team. The plan of action is to stay together to rectify the problems and get solutions. We thank the population of Tiko for the confidence, and pledge that this committee will bring the ‘Samba Boys’ to winning ways, and lift the team back to Elite One,” Ngembus declared.

Tiko United is currently rock bottom on the classification table, and will play their next game on Sunday May 26 at home against Dragon Douala.
