Nation Wide Campaign to Popularise Common Wealth Values and Principles.

The Campus of  International Relation Institute  of Cameroon (IRIC) hosted a champagne for the Center Region of Cameroon in Yaounde, under the patronage of H. E. President Paul Biya and the P.M. Yang Philemond. It was attended by the Minister Delegate for Common Wealth (CW) and Corporation, Dr. Dion Ngute, The Secretary General at the Ministry of External Relations, the British High Commissioner for South Africa and Canada respectively, Director of IRIC, Pierre Tabi, and the civil society.

The campaign started with the chanting of the refrain of the national anthem, and then the host and Director of IRIC expressed happiness over  CW’s initiative for such campaigns. He further urged that a strong tie be established between IRIC and CW universities for scholarships and other opportunities. He added that such opportunities will give students the willingness to study and know what Cameroon stands to benefit.

According to the British High Commissioner for Cameroon, Bharat Joshi, during one of his work shops in Bamenda,  it was discovered that despite Cameroon’s position and benefits from CW, the Country is still at its infant stage and therefore the need to create a nationwide awareness on the values of CW.

The CW Secretary Ibrahim W. on his part, elaborated on three areas which happens to be  CW points of interest:

- The first which is the reform in the CW secretariat aimed at establishing a secretariat that will expose opportunities to the Cameroonian population.

- Create a CW foundation which aims at recommending the CW members of government to collaborate with the local population.

- Furthermore establish a CW young people program which creates councils to permit young people part take in policy making in their government and also youth ambassadors who will represent their countries abroad in foreign policies and decision making.

Secretary Ibrahim explained that these can help Cameroon in its emergence and consequent exposure.

The campaign was crowned by the Chairman, Minister Delegate for CW and Corporation, who expressed his profound gratitude for all the participants. He added “CW is one of the oldest organisations, since 1985, when Cameroon under President Paul Biya  joined the CW,  the country has witness tremendous improvement in aspects of human rights and democracy. He added that CW has supported the government of Cameroon in the fight against corruption which has been of encouragement to foreign investors.”

The Chairman  made known to the public that it is the first time in history that its reforms has been combined in one document called CW For The People Times Journal.
