University Students Called to Receive President Biya’s Reward of Excellence

The rector of the University of Yaoundé II Soa in a press release has invited students of his institution to come and receive President Paul Biya’s excellence award for 2011/2012. Cameroon Head of State, Paul Biya, for the third time, is offering grants to students who performed exceptionally well for the 2011/2012 academic year. University of Yaoundé II includes Soa, International Relation Institute (IRIC) and Advance School of Mass Communications (ESSTIC)

Apart from the University of Yaoundé II, students with excellent results from other state universities in Douala, Yaounde, Buea, Ngoundere and Maroua have equally benefited from this largess of the head of state.

Seven thousand, eight hundred and thirty six (7,836) names of students from faculty of law and political sciences and the faculty of economics and management at the University of Yaoundé II have been published. Two hundred and forty-two names were rejected.  Each grant recipient whose name appears on the list must present a student identity card and a receipt of payment of school fees for 2011/ 2012 academic year.

Those who merit the grants but do not have their names on the list will have to file a complaint and address it to the rector of the University of Yaoundé II. Each complaint should include a photocopy of transcript for the year 2011/2012, and deposit both at the students’ admission office.

Besong  Ayuk, a third year student at the faculty of law and political sciences said that he had 11.79 average which must be the reason why he is among the recipients. He gives special thanks to the head of state. The money will help him buy books that will help him prepare for next year.

Another student in the faculty of economics and management, Nji Peter, a second year student said that in as much as he is happy for the grants, he would have preferred the money to be transferred to the University for his school fees.

Finally Ayuk Yvette, a graduate student, told iCameroon reporter that it is no surprise that her name appeared on the list of recipients. She had worked extremely hard and her results are a living witness. She made an average of 11.65 which she said it is not easy to obtain in her faculty.

Payment has already commenced and security measures have equally been put in place to make sure that the payment is done without difficulty. Moreover, in order to avoid congestion, three different spots have been created to facilitate the payment.

The aim of the presidential grants is to encourage hard work and merits; a means to improve the morals of youths. This goes inline to support the President’s millennium goal to make Cameroon an emerging nation by 2035.
