World Cup Qualifiers: Lions Beat Libya, Step into Crucial Playoff Phase

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have qualified into the playoff phase of the African qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup tourney slated to take place in Brazil. In the last round matches for Group I, the Lions overpowered their counterparts; the Mediterranean Knights from Libya in a one nil victory, Sunday, September 8 2013.

Playing at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé, in front of an approximate 30,000 man population, Lions’ defense-man, Aurelien Chedjou netted in the lone goal at the 42nd minute of the match. Chedjou went above all other players in the 18-metre box of the Libyans to head-in a corner kick from Eyong Enoh.

With the new found qualification ticket, the Lions join the other nine qualified countries to begin warming up for the playoff matches due for October 11 – 15 2013, while the second and decisive ties will take place on 15 – 19 November 2013.

Cameroon has joined the list of qualified countries, which include ; Ethiopia, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Senegal, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Egypt and Ghana. The draws for the playoff matches have been programmed for Septembre16 2013.

With the victory over Libya, Cameroon tops Group I with 13 points.
