Brazil 2014: Lions Build up For Great Friendlies

The training programme for the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon as they prepare for World Cup 2014 due in Brazil in the months ahead has been made public.

In a recent outing in Yaoundé, Volker Finke, German-born trainer for the Lions in the company of officials from the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education and the CAF-FIFA-Cameroon government Normalisation Committee of Cameroon Football Fedration, FECAFOOT, told the media and other enthusiasts of the Lions how his preparation will unfold.

According to the German football technician, his preparatory activities will open in Febuary and end in the opening days of the month of June 2014. Within this period, he will have a training camp with his team in Austria, play a series of international friendly matches, amonsgt which is the big game against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal on March 5 2014 in France. On June 1 2014, Volker Finke and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will play against the German Manschafft in Germany.

From Western Europe, they will proceed to Central Europe and Latin America, where another handful of training programmes and friendlies have been earmarked. The Lions’ departure for the land of the Samba dance and football maestro, Pele has been slated for June 4 2014.

In Volker Finke’s working schedule you will find;

-     Up to April 2014: supervision of the 42 preselected players, observation of professional players and the search of potential opponents for friendlies.

-     From February 3 - 6 : four-day training programme with players selected from Cameroon

-     March 5 : International friendly, Portugal – Cameroon in France

-     April : intensification of training camp with 30 preselected players

-     May 20 – 31 : training camp in Austria with two friendlies in perspective

-     June 1 : International friendly, Germany – Cameroon

-     June 2 – 4 : Recess for the players

-     June 4 : open door training for the Lions at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, Yaoundé and the traditional farewell blessings from the Cameroonian public and take off of the 23 selected players for the world cup to Brazil.

-     While in Brazil, other international friendlies previewed with Latin American teams will take place.
