ZTE has opened a subsidiary in Cameroon to provide telecom infrastructure construction and maintenance services. Agence Ecofin reports that the Chinese company will supply equipment, import and export products and offer telecom consulting services to businesses, with some locally made and assembled content. ZTE Cameroon is led by Ruoyi Qi and has XOF 480 million (USD 825,000) of capital.

The subsidiary allows ZTE to become directly responsible for sales in the country rather than going through Mitsumi Distribution, with which it signed a pan-African agreement a year ago. ZTE won the backbone contract in 2013, focused on connecting government facilities involved in natural disaster response. At the time, competitors said ZTE offered an unfair level of financing to win the contract.
